PACIFIC WAR STORY
PACIFIC WAR STORY
My name is Matthew Asner. I am a producer living in Los Angeles with a passion for the WWII era. Pacific War Story is a project that began almost 15 years ago with the production of a movie I helped create called Hiroshima for Showtime. During the research phase and also into actual production I interviewed dozens of subjects who told their incredible stories about their lives and actions during the Pacific War.
There is no political agenda here. Each person speaks for themselves. There might be some things said in interviews that could be deemed offensive by some people on both sides. It certainly is not my intention to hurt anyones feelings. There are still a lot of raw nerves concerning the war and what happened during it. These pages are a place where people can talk from the heart without the fear of being used for any kind of political agenda. There are stories from the American side and the Japanese side. A very small sampling of these interviews was actually included in the final film, leaving a large amount of these interviews unseen and unheard until now. It is a dream of mine to be able to create a place for people to share their stories about this era so that anyone who wants to can read about these incredible people in one place. This dream begins with these first stories. It is my hope that people will send in their own stories for me to include. Please send me an email with your story and I will get it up as fast as I can.
Since this is being done completely with my own time and funds, I have decided to place a donation button on the front page. All I ask is that if you use the info provided on these pages for research or if you are moved by what you have read here make a small donation. This will allow me to build a proper website with some bells and whistles such as video, audio and smarter overall design.
Thanks for visiting. I hope you find the stories of these men and women as compelling and fascinating as I do. From a child in Japan during the war who witnessed the insanity and horrors of war, to an aide to Harry Truman during the war, they are/were all vibrant people with compelling stories.
Special thanks to Cellin Gluck who did the Japanese language interviews.
